Monroe Township Soccer Club (Middlesex County, 08831)

My name is Naji Shatliff and I am honored to be your Director of Coaching here in Monroe. I am also the owner and operator of Shatliff Soccer who provide trainers to the club. My staff are Coaches Marco Campos, Paul Lancaster, Tyler Czerula and Rachel Breton.

I wanted to lay out some of the expectations for the upcoming 2019-2020 season and answer some of your frequently asked questions

Monroe Philosophy – To inspire our children to be confident, creative, positive leaders on and off the soccer field

•             Arrive at training 15 minutes before start time

•             Bags lined up facing field at training and games

•             Players must shake hands and politely greet all trainers/coaches/parent coaches/referees on arrival and when they leave.

•             No shooting if players arrive early (They can injure themselves or others!) . Juggling/moves/short passing in pairs

•             If player is late, they must apologize to trainer before entering session

•             If pinnies are used in a session, they must be worn correctly

•             All teams must be in training uniform, no hoodies wrapped around waist, sleeves hanging down past fingertips, jackets unzipped                        flapping around.

•             Summarize at end of training in team huddle, arms around each other in team unity. All eyes on coach.

•             Players leave in an orderly manner, no kicking balls around the trainers work area, no messing around, no litter left on field.

•             All parents to view ‘ILWYP’ video –

•             NO coaching from the side line at games or training ie pass! Shoot! Get wide!

•             Late players do not start games

•             Communicate to the coach in a timely manner if a player cannot attend a game or training session (update TEAMSNAP)

•             Please be supportive of our coaches, it can be very damaging to a players attitude if they overhear you commenting negatively on a substitution or tactical decision.

•             Please be mindful that you should be a role model on the sidelines

•             If you have an issue with a coach do not under any circumstances approach the coach when emotions are high at a game in front of   other parents and players. You must wait at least 24 hours before contacting the coach to discuss your concern.

•             Players positions not guaranteed. Positions will be based on what that player needs to develop and NOT to win games when they are playing 5v5, 7v7 and 9v9.

•             Equal playing time for all players in 5v5 games and 7v7 games. 9v9 and 11v11 games based on training attendance, attitude, effort and performance.

You can find the training schedule up on the Monroe website on the "Helpful Links Section" at the bottom of the Monroe Soccer website. Additionally your team’s schedule should be up on their TeamSnap account.

Player Evaluations

Every player coached by a Shatliff Soccer trainer will receive a written player evaluation midway through the season. Teams who select to use Shatliff Soccer trainer as there full time coach (attend and coach games) will also receive a second player evaluation through the season.

Game Day Evaluations

For travel teams who use Shatliff Soccer as a trainer and a parent volunteer coach at games, we will attend a game in the season to evaluate the team and provide feedback to the volunteer coach on ways to best effect the game to best suit the player’s development.

Drop off and Pick up

Please do not park along the fence to drop your child off to training. We have children walking to and from practice and illegal parking may cause an accident. Park your car and walk your child to the fields. This is also a good way for you to introduce yourself to the trainer and maybe watch some of the session. A lot of the time the trainer will have back to back sessions so it is advised that you also walk onto the turf to meet and pick up your child at the end of training.

A training session may be cancelled due to inclement weather. If so you will be notified via Teamsnap and club email. We do our best to notify everyone in due time if we need to cancel training. To do this we use multiple weather tracking applications and sometimes we do get it wrong as do they so we appreciate your patience as we will always try to do what is best for the kids. If training is held and you do see some storms in the forecast it is always advised to try and stay local so that we can have players picked up swiftly.

Make ups

If a session is canceled then a makeup will be scheduled. This can take place when the trainer has a space in their schedule, Trainer can attend a game, session can be added to the end of the season or if the season is over the session can be added to the Spring season.

Training uniform

All players must come prepared with shinguard's and full training uniform. Please be mindful of the forecast so as to prepare players with sunscreen and ample amounts of water when it is hot and hats, gloves, jackets, under armor when it is cold.
