Game Recaps:
Week 1: 01/22/2010: Loss 2-1 vs Manalapan Phoenix (0-1-0)
The Monroe Thunder started out the winter season with a good turnout of players. We started out against a U14 Manalapan Phoenix team and played a very solid game losing 2 - 1. The Thunder outplayed the Phoenix, however, they ran into a stonewall as the Phoenix goalie made some remarkable saves. It was our best indoor game we ever played, and we actually had more shots on goal than the Phoenix. Both Ryan and Ethan played very well in goal. Matt K pushed Monroe to an early 1-0 lead at the 15 minute mark. He made a nice sliding shot beating the goalie and the defender to the ball and putting the ball into the left hand corner. The team played well, we were aggressive, and controlled the ball with a nice short passing game. We were unlucky on some good scoring chances. The Phoenix came back and scored a couple of goals from strong blasts from their forwards, blowing hard shots into the corners beyond the goalie's reach. Ethan played well and kept the game close with some nice aggressive saves.
I thought Michael and Ryan W controlled the ball in the middle of the field. Michael had several good opportunites to score. David A played hard and aggressive defense. Tyler M, Eric S, Joe Z, Tyler W, all played up on the front line and did a good job of keeping the pressure on. Brandon W, Ryan W, and David A, held the defensive line and Matt and Michael helped man the mid-field.
Overall a good team effort and I was very satisfied with the way we played. We will run into some tough teams in this tournament, the Windsor team is a real strong U14 team, and there is the U14 Monroe Team and the Wild are also strong. I do believe we will be competitive and it should be a good way of keeping us fresh for the upcoming Spring Season.
Great Job!!
