Congratulations to the Monroe Thunder for a 2nd place finish!!

 

I was really proud of the boys over the weekend.  They went 2-0 and not many players can say they played a game in a tropical storm.  I am sure it was a lot more fun for the boys then the parent and/or coaches.  Thank you to all the parents for sticking it out.  They played well on Saturday and they really worked together as a team.  They deserved their 2-0 record, and they also deserved to play on Sunday as well, but that is another story.  Since it looks like the tournament is officially over, below is the game recaps for the SB Soccer tournament.

South Bunswick Tournament Recap (2-0-0 – Awarded 2nd place)

 

Game 1:  Monroe Thunder 5 – West Windsor/Plainsboro Gladiators 1 (1 – 0 – 0)

 

The boys played very well. Their communication was stellar, in fact we had 2 goals scored on called drop passes and shots from just inside the 18 yard line.  Tyler MacDonald got us off to a fast start with 2 goals, the first goal off of a nice pass from Harisson and he put a shot into the far side of the net an excellent run.  His second goals was unassisted on a long run down the right sideline, where he outran the defense to score.  Our 3rd and 4th goals were almost identical plays on drop passes.  Matt K scored on a nice shot from just inside the 18 from a nice pass from Eric S.  Joe Z also scored on a nice drop pass from Ryan W.  Our scoring was complete on a nice aggressive shot from Ryan W off of a pass from Shawn G.

 Game 2:  Monroe Thunder 2 – Princeton Newcastle 1 (2 -0 -0)

 

 

The boys played this game during Tropical Storm Hannah.  It was a very close game and the boys played very hard.  We scored a late unassisted goal when Ryan W put in a rebound shot off the opposing goalie.  The team played well.  Tyler Turiano played very well in goal.  Jair had a nice game, along with Eric S.  The defense played solid and Brandon W played a nice sweeper.  Overall it was a very wet game.  The boys played great.  It was a nice win to get late in the game. 

For the tournament,the defense played well, David A, Ryan W, Joe Z, Ryan S, Tyler T, Brandon W, Ryan M, and Tyler W all played well  and only gave up 2 goals in 2 games.

September 6th/7th – 4 games – all games will be played at Sondek Park Field #2

For all games wear your purple jerseys and bring your white jerseys.  Please arrive 1 hour prior to game time to ensure that we are able to find the fields and check-in.  You may leave in between games, just make sure you arrive 1 hour prior to our next game.
