Munchkins soccer is designed for our younger children to prepare them for the "big game." Kindergarten children play 3v3 or 4v4 on smaller fields without a goalie. Small pop-up nets are used. Each team is divided in half so that there are actually 2 games occurring at the same time for the team. The goal is for the kids to have FUN, develop basic soccer skills, and begin to learn the rules of the game. The key is to let the kids just play. They will figure out their own posistions as well as when to dribble and when to pass.
Games are played on Sundays at 12pm and last 1 hour. There is one practice a week, which is usually about 1 hour long. Practice times are scheduled by the volunteer coaches.
Since two small fields are used at a time for each team, there must be 2 "coaches" available for each team. We are desperately in need of additional coaches and assistant coaches for our Munchkins. This is our largest division, fielding 13 teams in the fall - and there were still kids on a waiting list! The more parents who come out to help, the more kids who can play. You don’t need to know much about soccer, and MTSC provides you with training and can match you with an "experienced" coach as a mentor for practices. Volunteer on the registration form as a coach or assistant coach. The time commitment is only 2 hours a week (one for the game, and one for the practice).
